In the month of May we once again start up the maintenance of the grounds at the B&B for the year.
There’s lots of work to be done raking up all the leftover leaves once the snow melts, and picking up fallen branches from the trees. We also have to make sure all our mowers and equipment are working well for the coming year.
Planting the flower beds
The flower beds are also a big job, we plant them yearly with annuals we usually get from the Saskatoon Farm just down the road from us. First we prepare the beds by tilling the soil and adding peat moss and fertilizer to give the plants a boost.
We usually hold off on planting until about June 1st. There is a local rule in Calgary that you don’t usually want to plant your flowers before May long weekend to avoid a frost, but we usually like to wait a little longer than that even. This is just because it’s such a big job to cover our over 100′ feet of flower beds if we ever have to. So the flowers sometimes stay in the pool room until it’s time to plant them.
Are you a photographer?
We are putting together some helpful information for people planning weddings. If you are a local photographer, you can fill out our photographer submittal form for inclusion on our list photographers. The new page will probably feature an image for each person and a link to their website.
